When creating your keyword list, don't just use nouns. Think of descriptive words thay may be associated with benefits of your productsor services. For example, if your site offers information on weight loss, then some of your keywords may be "weight, weight loss, diet, exercise, nutrition," and so on. You can also add some keywords that describe advantages a person may receive from visiting your site such as "thin, slim, attarctive, healthy, in shpae, etc."
When determinig what your keywords will be, always keep the customer or your target visitor in mind. Try to think like they would if they where to do a seacrh for information on your topic. Don't just think about what people would do to find your site, but what whey would do if they didn't know your company existed. They are looking for the types of products and services you provide. If you find this a difficult exercise, then ask around. Talk to both people that know about your business and people that don't. Ask what keywords they would use to find a site like yours.
Start by taking the company's brochures and other corporate marketing materials, as well as the site itself, and highlight any words that individuals might search for if they are looking for the product or services the company has to offer. Record these words in a text document in your word processing program.
Next, edit the list by deleting words that are either too broad (for example, "business") or are not appropiate fo keyword purposes. Always use the plural when forming your keywords (adding a "s" forms the plural). If you list "game" as your keyword and someone uses "games" to do a search, then your site will not be found. However, if you use "games" and someone requests information on the word "game", then your site will be found because "game" is part of the word "games". If the plural does not include the singular in its entirety, for example "company" and "companies" you should list both the singular and the plural as part of your keyword list.
Now, reorganize the remaining keywords in order of importance. By having the most important words first, no matter how many keywords the particular directory will allow, you are ready to submit.
Now you have a good master keyword list. Different directories allow for for different numbers of keywords to be submitted. Because you have organized your list with the most important words first, you simply include as many of your keywords as the directory will allow. when a directory will allow multiple submissions for the same URL, you might consider submitting as many times as it takes to include all your keywords. You won't have to cahnge your description or other information every time, just the keywords.
If you plan to submit every page of your site, your master list provides a valuable document. For each page that you are indexing, take a photocopy of the comprehensive list and delete words that are not appropiate for that particular page. Then reprioritize the remaining keywords based on the content of the page. Repeat this procedure for every page you will be indexing.
If you make changes to your web pages, change the title and keywords contained in the title as well. This will allow you to be re-indexed by search engines.
